Air Personality Ray Diorio - Cartoonist and Caricaturist
This was some of the late Ray Diorio's handy work from late 1984. Can you identify our 62 WHEN Heavy Spikers volleyball team members: Ray, Jay, Peter, Captain Scott King and his pup named Snoopy??
Ray Diorio, the popular, velvet-voiced air talent that thousands of Central New Yorkers listened to each day on 62 WHEN was not only an accomplished air personality, but also a pretty good pianist, and, as illustrated above (no pun intended) a better-than-average cartoonist. "Have Movies, Will Travel" was also a Ray Diorio feature where he hosted numerous area public appearances for charitable benefit. Anyone knowing Ray knew he was always a big fan of the Marx Brothers' movies (which he often featured during his travels) and it wasn't uncommon to hear him often quote laughable lines, and with the accompanying expressions, from the irrepressible Groucho. The above cartoon actually ran as a print ad promoting 62WHEN in the weekly entertainment newspaper, The Syracuse New Times in November, 1984.
