The predecessor to WHEN's " Heavy Vette" A 1962 Chevy Impala 2 door hardtop. In the 70s this vehicle was used by 62WHEN at various promotions, including remote broadcasts, parades and annual charity softball games in summer. When Central New York drivers spotted this vehicle on area highways they knew great prizes were not far away. Air personalities often piloted the Heavy Chevy spotting for the "seen everywhere" WHEN bumper stickers. Listeners whose cars had a WHEN bumper sticker were spotted on-air, pulled over and given a chance to open the trunk with a lucky key. Listeners who opened the trunk would win cash and other, sometimes big, prizes. In the photo at right you see the Heavy Chevy as it appeared in 1978 in the station's parking lot. Look close and you'll also see those lake pipes just next to the rocker panel. They were non-functioning and for "looks" only. In the background, the rear of the former Bresee Chevrolet on Old Liverpool Rd.
The 62 HEAVY CHEVY was eventually donated to the BOCES Program in Ithaca, New York around 1980. Its whereabouts today is unknown.
