62 WHEN Radio's Candy Apple Red Corvette
While WHEN's Heavy Vette was not always candy apple red, it did get there eventually... and reportedly at a cost of about $5,000... more than the car cost when it was brand new. Above and below are the two popular versions of WHEN's Corvette. Above, WHEN promotional photo (courtesy Bob Mitchell) taken circa 1980. After the vehicle left WHEN in Syracuse, it traveled to Waterloo, Iowa where it once again was painted white (after a reported accident). It served as the promotional vehicle for KOKZ - Cool 105.7, an oldies station. That station, however, has since changed format. The fate of the former "62 WHEN Heavy Vette" is unknown in 2019
RIGHT: After many coats of candy apple red paint the Heavy Vette began a whole new life. Cindy Thomason, WHEN's promotion director at the time, stands beside the station's dream machine prior to a "Party in the Plaza" event in downtown Syracuse.
