62 WHEN Radio - Syracuse, NY
Deane Parkhurst -With Guest Arthur Godfrey
Circa 1963
Deane Parkhurst, "Around 1963 WHEN opened their new facility at 980 James Street which included both radio and television studios." Here Deane chats with broadcast legend Arthur Godfrey in
front of the station's new studios.
Deane adds Jul. 2013 - "I was bitten by the radio bug at a very early age and, growing up, listened to the Godfrey show every chance I got. Meeting him was very special. He had hip replacement surgery, a new thing back then, and walked with a noticeable limp. 980 James St. had no elevator.
Everyone was surprised when he bounded up the back stairs like a little kid. At the top he said: "When you have to do something that hurts like a son-of-a-bitch, get it over with as fast as you can. Words to live by"
