Barbara Gibbons, 65, of Syracuse, passed away
Saturday at Community General Hospital after a sudden illness. Born and raised in
Carbondale, PA, she came to Syracuse University where she obtained her degree in English.
Since the early 1970s she was very well-known as a Syracuse radio personality on such
stations as WNDR, WFBL, WNTQ, WHEN and WSYR. Barbara was continuously active in the
Syracuse theater community with the Salt City Playhouse, The Talent Co., and the Glen Loch
dinner theater. For the past 15 years she was an adjunct instructor of Public Speaking for
Onondaga Community College, where she was a great influence on many students. Barbara was
a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who loved all animals, especially her cats. She
will be dearly missed. She was predeceased by her husband, John Gibbons in 2007. Surviving
are her daughter, Sarah (Frank Vigliotti) Gibbons of Santa Monica, CA; son, Brady (Paula)
of Corvallis, OR; four granddaughters, Tina, Cristiana, Gabriela, and Camille; brother,
Alan (Beverly) Stone of Pittsburgh, PA. Funeral services will be Friday, May 1st @ 1
p.m., at Whelan Bros. Funeral Home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Whelan Bros. Funeral Home, 3700 W.
Genesee St. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Barbara's name to the SPCA,
5878 E. Molloy Rd., Mattydale, NY 13211.
